Scott Vail, Senior Pastor


Dr. Scott Vail, our Senior Pastor, was called to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in November, 2014. Scott has served previously as the Executive Pastor of a non-denominational church in Charlotte and a Baptist Church in Wilson, NC.

Scott met his wife, Kim, at Atlantic Shores Baptist Church in Virginia Beach where the two were married in May, 1987. Scott and Kim, along with their three children, Heather, Lindsay, and Caleb, moved from Wilson to Charlotte in 2007.  In 2013, their daughter, Lindsay, married Brad.

Scott was born and raised in Rochester, NY. He became a follower of Christ at age 20 while attending Rochester Institute of Technology where he later received a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an Engineer in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry until God called him to vocational ministry in 2000. Since that time, Scott has earned a Masters of Art in Religion, a Masters of Divinity, and Doctorate of Ministry from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

Pastor Vail enjoys vacationing with family, reading, playing disc golf, ACC basketball, and the Panthers (when they are winning!).

Phil Pike, Pastor of Worship

Phil began serving at Pleasant Valley in March of 2017. Phil has 20 years of ministry experience serving 5 other churches before coming to Pleasant Valley. He is passionate about worship and seeing others grow in Christ through music.

Phil and his wife Stacy met in church and have been married for 15 years.  They have two precious little girls, Hannah Leigh and Charlotte. They enjoy serving in ministry and family time.

Phil was born and raised in upstate South Carolina (Anderson). At age, 9 he was saved but didn’t sense the call to ministry until age 26. He holds an Associate of Arts (Computer Programming-’91) and a Bachelor of Arts (Music-’94) from Anderson University. And a Masters (Music-’99) from Southwestern Seminary.

After college he worked for a couple of years before surrendering to the call to full time ministry.

Phil enjoys family time, woodworking, smoking meat and college football, and is an avid Clemson Tiger fan!
