John 4:23-24 “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Worship is often defined as a feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity. At Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, we worship the one and true God worthy of all glory and honor and praise. It is written in 1 Chronicles 16: 23-25 “Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods.”
The worship service is a combination of prayer, singing and teaching from God’s holy, inerrant and everlasting word. Music does not drive our worship but, instead, is a product of our worship. We humble ourselves together, singing and praying to our King, for our King and in the presence our King. Those who have been adopted into the family of Christ know that the reason we exist, is to glorify our God. Revelation 4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Worship comes from our hearts and requires participation. All of the congregation is asked to participate in singing hymns, praise choruses and praying. While God’s word is being delivered and taught through the prayerfully prepared message, the congregation is asked to participate by listening and following along in the scripture with open ears, hearts and minds to God’s truth. Lastly, we have been instructed to take the truth we have heard and deliver it to those that have not heard it. “Sharing the love of Jesus Christ that transforms lives.” Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
There are many ways that those in Christ who have become church members can not only participate, but also serve in the worship service. We have an audio/visual team, worship choir, children’s church, child care during services, praise singers, praise band and orchestra, hand chimes, greeters, and a prayer team.
If you believe God is leading you to serve in any of those groups or areas, please contact the office and let them know.
